New Video Flyover of the Hebes Chasma on Mars

The European Space Agency (ESA) has released a new video flythrough of the Hebes Chasma on Mars.  The movie was created with images taken from the Mars Express mission.

In the recently released video from the European Space Agency (ESA) above, experience flying through Hebes Chasma, the northernmost part of Valles Marineris.

The movie was created from images taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera on Mars Express.

Valles Marineris, in fact, dwarfs the grand canyon on Earth. At 2,500 miles long, 125 miles wide and 6 miles deep, it is the largest canyon in the entire solar system.

The movie above takes us through the Hebes Chasma, the northernmost part of the canyon.

This formation is probably linked to the nearby volcanic Tharsis region, the Olympus Mons volcano is located. As you may have guessed, the Valles Marineris is named after NASA’s Mariner 9 Mars orbiter, of 1971–72, which discovered it.
